Given that the garment industry is a $20 billion business there, odds are high. Odds are also high that someone made that garment in poor conditions for a paltry wage.

Whose responsibility is it to ensure safe working conditions? The company, the consumer or perhaps – BOTH.

Let’s say you have two options to choose from: A T-shirt that has been made using questionable labor practices for $9.90 or a T-shirt of the same quality that has been made ethically for $10.00. Are we entering an era where we will trust banks? Will new metrics help build trust in the financial sector?

It’s no surprise that banks and financial sectors are the institutions least trusted by U.S. society. Trust reached an all-time low of 24 percent in 2011, down from 69 percent in 2008. In an effort to rebuild confidence in financial institutions, Congress enacted two financial reform bills (Sarbanes Oxley in 2002 and Dodd-Frank in 2012). These efforts, however, have not sufficed.
